Football-Themed Birthday Cake!

Last month I made a yummylicious birthday cake: classic vanilla gluten free cake with smooth whipped chocolate buttercream.  {Wish I got to eat a slice!}

I only knew the birthday boy liked football so I was given free reign to design.  My hubs actually helped come up with the idea of yard lines since I know nothing about football 😉  So fun to make!

Multi-Chamber Business Expo

Here are the long awaited pictures from the Multi Chamber Business Expo on August 1st! It went extremely well.  I met a lot of wonderful people and businesses AND had my incredibly handsome and charming hubby to help me.  I’m not one to brag, but, you know, I think I was one of the most popular businesses there  😉

I made a whole box full of cake pops and over 100 mini cupcake samples that included flavors like Vanilla Sundae, Red Velvet, Lemon Dream, and Chocolate Peanut Butter.  Thanks to these samples I managed to convince people that Gluten Free really is delicious!!

Also made some large scale cupcakes.  Totally drool worthy.

I also made a two tiered display cake.  The ruffles are actually buttercream, not fondant!

And three handmade and hand painted gum paste roses.

Welcome Home Deployment Cake

welcome home cake 2

My hubby came back from his deployment last month and boy was I so happy to see him!  {Although I must admit it was nice only running the dishwasher once a week… only having one load of laundry a week… haha}  But honestly, I missed his smile.  His bear hugs.  His goofy sense of humor.  Cooking for him.  Oh, and of course baking his favorite treats!

So to celebrate I made this amazingly delicious cake!  It’s my favorite classic chocolate cake with caramel buttercream and fresh strawberries for the filling allllll wrapped in creamy whipped vanilla buttercream.  Oh.  So.  Yummy.

No fancy decorating here, just some simple swirls with the buttercream and a cute homemade bunting for the topper.

I must say I’m a very very lucky girl.  It’s so wonderful to have him home.  I love my Lieutenant Belanger!

Ribbon Cutting Cake for Ressurected Boutique

Ribbon Cutting Cake Ressurected

I had the pleasure of creating a ribbon cutting cake for my dear friend Julie who owns RESSURECTED Boutique here in Pacifica, California.  Her shop is so cute and full of repurposed furniture and fun goodies.  I highly recommend you visit… she’s right off Highway 1 in Rockaway Beach Pacifica!

I had free reign over how I wanted to decorate the cake so I went for a classic vibe.  I love clean looking cakes with smooth buttercream and minimal decorations.  I love how the orchid is the center of attention.

This is the first time I have ever made a sugar paste (gumpaste) orchid!  It was so fun to make and looks gorgeous.  So many people thought it was real!  And the white sugar paste stephanotis flowers are sweet accents.  {Can’t you tell I love love love making sugar flowers?}

Sugar paste Orchid

I knew that Julie loved caramel so I cooked up a batch of delicious oozy caramel and used it as a filling between cake layers.  The bottom tier was my amazing chocolate cake with caramel filling (mmm) and the top was a classic vanilla filled with caramel.  I iced the cake with my new favorite whipped buttercream that is so smooth and not overly sweet.

No party is complete without cake pops either!  I made some red velvet  and vanilla cake pops.  They “disappeared” before the actual ribbon cutting started!

So congratulations Julie on your awesomesauce shop – love it’s new location!  And thank you for letting me make your special day just a little bit sweeter!  🙂

A Spring Birthday Cake

My dear friend and neighbor had a birthday at the end of March and I wanted to make her something special.  I made a six inch round cake with two layers of chocolate cake and one vanilla and covered it in a delicious creamy vanilla buttercream.

Spring Bday Cake

Since we’re lucky California starts blooming early (even before official spring!) I wanted her cake to include some gerbera daisies and tiny yellow blossoms to celebrate the season.  I also speckled the icing with a cocoa powder/ vanilla extract mix and a clean brush (super messy and fun!) to make it look similar to a Robin’s egg.

I loved making this cake.  And it was delicious.  Happy Birthday Kristina!  I’m so lucky to have you in my life!
