Little Pirate Birthday Cake! {Gluten Free}

gluten free pirate cake 3

This little birthday cake was so much fun to make!  It was a six inch round cake with three layers of gluten free chocolate fudge cake filled with fresh strawberries and covered with chocolate buttercream.  Yum yum yum.  I also made a dozen matching chocolate fudge cake pops with sprinkles!

The little birthday boy had a Pirate themed party so he told his Mama he wanted a skull and cross bones and a butterfly on top of his cake.  Lol.  Four year olds are so much fun!  I made the little decorations out of my favorite fondant (Satin Ice) which is gluten free, dairy free, and nut free.  I made sure the little butterfly had a little eye patch and bandana to go along with the pirate theme!

His Mom told me the cake and pops were a hit at the party!  Yes!  I tell you, gluten free can be amazingly delicious!  😉   So keep in mind that I am taking custom orders within Pacifica, CA and throughout the San Francisco Bay Area!

You’ll also find scrumptious little cake pops that even the Royal Highness would approve for tea time.  Dainty, cute, and delicious.

Lovey’s Tea Shoppe is located right off of Highway 1 at Rockaway Beach in Pacifica.  And the original, Lovejoy’s Tea Room is located on Church Street in San Francisco.  Muna, the owner, is a wonderful woman and I am so thrilled to work with her!  Don’t miss your opportunity to visit her tea shops when you’re in the Bay Area!

Ribbon Cutting Cake for Ressurected Boutique

Ribbon Cutting Cake Ressurected

I had the pleasure of creating a ribbon cutting cake for my dear friend Julie who owns RESSURECTED Boutique here in Pacifica, California.  Her shop is so cute and full of repurposed furniture and fun goodies.  I highly recommend you visit… she’s right off Highway 1 in Rockaway Beach Pacifica!

I had free reign over how I wanted to decorate the cake so I went for a classic vibe.  I love clean looking cakes with smooth buttercream and minimal decorations.  I love how the orchid is the center of attention.

This is the first time I have ever made a sugar paste (gumpaste) orchid!  It was so fun to make and looks gorgeous.  So many people thought it was real!  And the white sugar paste stephanotis flowers are sweet accents.  {Can’t you tell I love love love making sugar flowers?}

Sugar paste Orchid

I knew that Julie loved caramel so I cooked up a batch of delicious oozy caramel and used it as a filling between cake layers.  The bottom tier was my amazing chocolate cake with caramel filling (mmm) and the top was a classic vanilla filled with caramel.  I iced the cake with my new favorite whipped buttercream that is so smooth and not overly sweet.

No party is complete without cake pops either!  I made some red velvet  and vanilla cake pops.  They “disappeared” before the actual ribbon cutting started!

So congratulations Julie on your awesomesauce shop – love it’s new location!  And thank you for letting me make your special day just a little bit sweeter!  🙂

Check out RESSURECTED’s cuteness on Facebook too!

Cutesy Cupcake Cookies {GF, Dairy Free, Nut Free}

 It’s pretty obvious I have already failed at my first New Years Resolution… *ahem* I should have posted last week… But that’s ok.  Because… I have been oh so busy doing stuff.  {insert sarcasm}

And because I’ve been swamped with busy-ness (like a gazillion loads of laundry with my new fancy washing machine!) I’ve decided to share these gluten free, dairy free, nut free sugar cookies with you.

I made these cookies for my awesomesauce neighbor to bring in to her students.  And since 99% of kids have allergies these days, she asked that they be free of those three allergens.

The verdict?  Totally kid approved.  Easy to roll out and shape with a cookie cutter.  And cute.  Super cute.

Want to try the recipe?  I followed Adventures of a Gluten Free Mom’s Sugar Cookie Recipe and simply made royal icing to decorate!  Easy Peesy.  And yummy wummy.

A Housewarming Party… for Us!

A few weeks ago we hosted a Housewarming Party at our new home!  We invited Beau’s Coastie co-workers and friends, our neighbors, and my hometown friend Liz!  We had such a wonderful time and I {finally} made a few new friends!
I made a delicious white sangria with our good friend “2 Buck Chuck” from Trader Joe’s…
This “Home Sweet Home” bunting was so much fun to make and it made quite a statement!  I love the summery warm colors.  I have two more exact buntings for sale in my Etsy Shop.  You can find it HERE if you’re interested  🙂

No party is ever complete without desserts!

Mini Peanut Butter Cookie “Smores” Cups… melted mini marshmallows and chocolate buttercream add extra yumminess to the flourless peanut butter cookie base.

Aren’t they so cute?!

Rainbow Rice Krispie Treats.

Cake Pops… which were devoured!  I think I know now of a few Coasties who would be excellent spokespeople for my pops – like the two that ate about 5 each… yeah, I saw you sneaking back to take more!

For the savory dishes, I made Baked Chicken Sausage Penne, Bean Dip, my Mom’s awesome Spinach Artichoke Dip, veggies and hummus, and these delish Vegan Cabbage Tacos.

Fresh Quinoa with Basil, Cranberries, Lemon Juice, and lots of veggies

And homemade Almond Thyme Crackers with Sea Salt.

It was such a lovely party and Beau and I cannot wait to host another one!

Thank you to all who came!
